H. Douglas Chapin, CLU, REBC

Doug graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Economics before serving 6 years as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corp. In 1973, Doug joined Lincoln National as a regional manager for their employee benefits division. He transferred to Memphis in 1974 and was responsible for marketing to the MidSouth area of Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. During his time with Lincoln, Doug received many awards and was recognized as the top regional manager in 1978.

In 1988, Doug left Lincoln to start the Chapin Group to provide a high level of insurance knowledge and service to business owners and individuals throughout the MidSouth. Doug is a recognized leader in his industry with his 35+ years of experience and has earned professional designations of Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Employee Benefit Specialist.


Ryan Groves, MBA, PMP

Ryan graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering in 2000. After working in the field as a Quality/Process Improvement Engineer for a third tier automotive supplier implementing lean manufacturing strategies, Ryan returned to UT Knoxville in 2001 to complete a dual degree in business and engineering (MS/MBA) that had a concentration in new product development. Ryan completed his master’s degrees in 2003, and started working for Hewitt Associates as a business analyst and then as a project manager/consultant.

While at Hewitt, Ryan managed multi-million dollar projects to transition work-flows, improve processes and implement enterprise-wide HR applications for Fortune 500 companies. Hewitt is a world leader in HR and benefits outsourcing.

In fall 2007, Ryan joined the Chapin Group as an account executive / consultant. Ryan brings a fresh perspective to the insurance brokerage field, leveraging his past experiences to look for process improvement and efficiencies in benefits design, communication and pricing. Further, with his experience from Hewitt, Ryan has been able to adapt some of the technology and ideas implemented for Fortune 500 companies for the small- to mid-sized employer market.
